The Michael Mod, Devil’s Night edition from Asvape doesn’t just look good, it features a powerful VO200 Chipset in a great quality build to create a box mod that not only stands out but stands its own ground in the mid to high-tier market.
Asvape is a relatively new company from China. The A stands for American and the S for Standard. They say their aim is develop high-end, yet fashionable devices and the Michael Mod certainly qualifies.
First up – the design. Asvape credits the Devil’s Night Japanese mythology motif to a visual artist, identified simply as Alan. Devil’s Night has a great comic aesthetic. Think iconic Ukiyo-e art, or vintage badges, tattoo or graffiti street art. The illustrations have been meticulously drawn to create a water transfer print that is really quite stunning.
The print aside, the chassis is zinc-alloy accented with satin gold plating that really makes this device pop. The front of the mod features a good sized 0.9inch OLED with full display including power output, mode, resistance, battery life and voltage. The back of the mod has a recessed grip for the perfect hand-fit.
The Michael takes two 18650 batteries and measures 96mm by 60mm by 28mm. However, it’s the American-made VO200 Chipset that really makes this device stand out as a high-tech mod. The chipset has a 5W to 200W output with an impressive minimum resistance of 0.08 ohms in power mode and 0.03 in temp control mode. The chipset also works with the VO Editor Program which can be used for not just firmware upgrades, but to create a custom logo, if that’s your thing.
The Temperature Control Mode features a full suite including Nickel, Stainless Steel and Titanium with a temp range of 212 – 572 degrees Fahrenheit. Another really great feature of the Michael is the Variable Power Control Mode which lets you customise your power curve with up to five different memory settings. The Asvape Michael also includes bypass mode for your mod to run from battery output.
The Michael mod has a super-responsive fire power button above the screen engraved with “AEQUITA INASVAPE WE TRUST”, a nice sophisticated touch. The mod also has an adjustment bar instead of the two usual buttons. All of the buttons are rattle free. The Micro USB port is located at the bottom front of the device.
The 510 pin on top of the mod can fit any tank up to 28mm. The spring-loaded gold plated connector features its own engraving detail.
The battery compartment is accessed through a sliding door secured by a single magnet on the base. The door does have a bit of play in it, which could actually do with some improvement. It won’t come loose but it would have a slightly better fit if it just had an extra magnet. The door though is easy to fit – simply press down lightly and slide it into place. There’s a good amount of venting in the battery door.
Ease of use
Using the VO200 Chip in variable volt is super easy. Things get a bit tricker when you move into Temperature Control Mode. Having said that, the manual is pretty comprehensive, so you should be able to navigate your way through it without too many problems.
- Three clicks of the fire button locks and unlocks the mod.
- Access the menu by clicking the fire button five times.
- Choose between three modes: Variable Wattage, Temperature Control and Bypass.
- You can also adjust the Wattage Curve and the mod also features manual TCR adjustment.
- When using Temperature Control the Michael Mod offers two options: NC and AC. NC is where you choose your own temperature settings, whereas AC recommends a temperature for you.
- Go to system to switch the device off.
The Asvape Michael mod is a bit bigger than most 200W devices, but it is a stable performer that can handle whatever you throw at it. Mode switching is instantaneous and it provides a super smooth experience. With its powerful VO200 Chipset, the Michael is more functional than many mods. This is a truly impressive and well-built device than any vaper would be happy to use.
